Sustainability inbuilt

Our school has a firm commitment to understanding and working with our unique environment.

Building Design

Some of our buildings are old Queenslanders re-sited and renovated for classroom and office use.

Locally designed, purpose-built buildings complement our natural surroundings.

Water Conservation

Noosa Pengari is fully self sufficient in our water supply, utilising rainwater harvesting and bore water for all our water needs.

Vegetable Gardens

Two large veggie patches are maintained on site. These provide plenty of rich learning opportunities for the children as well as occasional organic food of course!

Composting Toilets

All our toilets on site are fully operational, flushless composting lavatories.

Practical Learning

All children are given an awareness of environmental and land care issues through working with the seasons and understanding permaculture practices. The children participate in every facet of our school grounds as part of their curriculum.

Each year, Class 3 children transfer their newly developed classroom skills to a real-life application by undertaking a school building project. Projects to date include: wood fire pizza oven, bridges over natural water-courses, eating areas and a cubby house for the Preschool.

We recognise the beauty and fragility of our school’s physical environment and ensure wide awareness in the school community of the fragility of our local environment and our responsibilities to it. We endeavour to manage our buildings and school environment ethically, sustainably and economically.
